Mexico Monday: The Canadian celebrity edition
In which Justin, Ryan, and I make a frolicsome threesome
Hello everyone!
This has been a big week.
Not only did I reach full immunity (yay!), I also got some good publishing news. An essay I wrote is soon going to be published in The Globe and Mail! I originally intended it to be published in The New York Times, but those foolz have no taste whatsoever, and rejected my charming little memoir about how I rebounded from last year’s breakup with a VAN instead of MAN (get it??).
Now, however, it is soon to be published in Canada’s highest-circulation newspaper. So in your face, NYT! Because arguably, Canada is a better country than the U.S., which makes The Globe and Mail a better paper, and since it’s my second time being published there, I think that makes me almost a celebrity in Canada, don’t you?
Why I expect Justin Trudeau to roll out the red carpet for me any minute and invite me up to Ottawa, perhaps on a weekend when his pesky wife is away. Never mind the fact that Americans still aren’t allowed into Canada; he’ll make an exception for me!
Or perhaps Ryan Gosling, another hot Canadian par excellence, will call to say he read my essay and wants to buy the rights to it so he can direct and star in the film version that he would collaborate with me on writing, and did I want to meet up for drinks on Maui, where he is currently filming, to discuss?
Anyhoo, I will of course let you know as soon as it’s published, if I’m not too busy having drinks with Justin or Ryan (or both at the same time.)
I passed an exam
I know that’s pretty much enough “news” for one “newsletter,” but hark, I have more!
Last week, I cleared one big hurdle on my path to becoming an interpreter. I passed part one of the national qualifying exam, which wasn’t easy, believe you me, despite it being in English and being multiple choice.
Part two will be even harder, since it will an oral exam in Spanish, in which I will actually have to interpret, but I’m sure Justin and Ryan won’t mind practicing with me and doing some creative role plays involving a sexy doctor, a sexy patient, and a naive but willing interpreter.
Also, in a nod to Mother’s Day, if you haven’t seen this video from Saturday Night Live, “Boomers Got the Vax” - it’s funny! At least I thought so. The whole vibe that Kate McKinnon’s got going on here, with the hot pink jumpsuit, matching earrings, and fanny pack, reminds me of my mom - who would have definitely been out partying post-vax too.
Happy Mother’s Day all you moms out there! You make everything possible.
xo,
Rebecca
Happy Mother's Day Becky! That was a funny SNL skit. Here is one of my all-time favorites for your Sunday amusement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvT_gqs5ETk
